Warning

This time of year, the mullet run takes place, which means bait fish are everywhere. Following the mullet, are many different types of predator fish including Tarpon, Snook, Jacks, Bluefish, and yes, lots of sharks.

…he didn’t see the shark while he was swimming Sunday morning but noticed a school of bait fish near him before he was bitten.

Schooled up bait fish in shallow water can mean that they are trying to stay away from predators. If you see this, proceed with caution.  If you see big bursts of bait fish jumping or areas that looks like boiling water, don’t get in the water.  This usually means a large fish is under them or pursuing them.

Although the mullet run is a very fun time of year for fisherman all up and down the coast, beach goers need to be careful and look real good before entering the water.

Have fun out there!
